my new game!

ok, so I was shopping at Wegman's (the world's coolest grocery 'experience'!!) the other night and I am inducting myself into the world of "foodies" (those who truly LOVE food for the experience of preparing, eating, sharing, experimenting, and creating yummy, and sometimes unusual treats!). and, I realized that my new "game" has sparked a certain je ne sais quoi inside me that makes me feel invigorated and young, and maybe just plain "I know something you don't know!" that needs fulfilling every now and again since I spend my days and nights in the less than scholarly position of "mom". I'm not saying I don't APPRECIATE the time I spend with my kids/family, however it is SO healthy to have other things that make your heart skip a beat and art, even when it involves food, does that for me. so, what is this new game, you ask?

everytime i go to the grocery store now, it is my MISSION
to find an item in the produce section that prompts the cashier
to ask, "uuuuhhh, what IS this?!?" then, in my most calm, Julia Child-like
tone I say, "Oh! that!? That is . . . "

The game doesn't stop there, though! then, I make it my duty to find out how to introduce that particular produce item into a dish and all I am allowed to do is google how to peel/cut/or prepare it . . . you see the fun comes in figuring out for yourself how to incorporate the item into your own style of cooking and to use your own creative instincts to determine a recipe or use for the item. it has made me appreciate the abundance of good eats the Lord has blessed us with . . . and, surprisingly, my kids even eat it!!! so, give it a go, and let me know what you make!!
